Jana develops material works and thoughts as choreographer, artist and artist-researcher.
After a thorough engagement with the making of choreoraphies for black box theaters (2007-2015), Jana has been embracing a process of wondering that has resulted in paintings, videos, writings, dramaturgy (for Zina Vaessen), teaching, performing durational collaboratively made pieces for artistic research conferences (with Tina Jonsbu), hosting walks (with Francisco Trento). All these tangible outputs of that wondering process emerge through concerns of sense and sensing, relatedness and an almost-knowing.
Jana did theatre studies at the Sorbonne in Paris, trained dancing and choreography at SEAD Salzburg and HZT Berlin.
During her Master at the HZT she started to freelance and gained visiblity with her choreographic work that was presented among others at Springdance Utrecht, Hebbel am Ufer Berlin, Kampnagel Hamburg Impulstanz Vienna. However, she realized that merely freelancing does not feed the relation she wants to cultviate with her work, and so she started to explore the research route.
2018 she received a D.A. (dance) from the Theater Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki.
2019/2020 she held a post-doc position at the Center for Artistic Research at Uniarts Helsinki.
Jana´s research interests have been propeling around visuality, vision, visibility and their opposits, the educational turn in the arts/more-than-human education studies and theories of artistic research.
2020/2021 Jana collaborates with Berlin-based choreographer and performer Miriam Jakob on their project "Breathing With". The collaboration is generously supported and funded the Artistic Research Program Berlin.
She lives with her partner and their two kids in Helsinki and works between Finland and Germany.
